What Advent Is Really About
Jun 24, 2026
Before we move into the verses, let’s slow down for a moment.
Advent is not just about counting down to Christmas.
It’s about preparing our hearts for Jesus.
It holds a sense of holy anticipation—remembering His coming as a baby, and also looking forward with hope for His return.
Isaiah 9:6 reminds us:
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given…”
This is the heart of Advent.
God coming near.
God keeping His promise.
God entering our story.
And as we read through these verses, that’s what we’re really doing—we’re making space to see Him again with fresh eyes.
Not rushing.
Not skimming.
But letting truth settle gently into our hearts.

🌟 Let the Verses Shape Your Rhythm
Let’s slow this down for a moment.
You don’t have to rush through these.
You don’t have to treat them like a checklist.
Instead, imagine letting one verse accompany your day.
Reading it in the morning.
Thinking about it during quiet moments.
Returning to it when your mind feels full.
For example:
Luke 2:14 might remind you to pause in the middle of stress and remember peace is still possible.
Isaiah 9:6 might gently remind you that Jesus is still the Prince of Peace in your current season.
John 1:14 might invite you to reflect on the wonder that God chose to dwell among us.
These verses are not just words.
They are invitations.
To slow down.
To notice God.
To remember what Christmas is really about.
🌿 When Christmas Feels Rushed
I think many of us can relate to this.
We start December with good intentions.
We want to be present.
We want to focus on Jesus.
But then life happens.
Schedules fill up.
To-do lists grow.
And before we know it, our hearts feel a little behind the season.
That’s why Advent is such a gift.
It reminds us we don’t have to rush into Christmas emotionally unprepared.
We can slow down.
Even now.
Even in the middle of everything.
God is not asking for perfect stillness.
He is simply inviting our attention.
✨ What God Reveals in These Verses
When you look at all 25 verses together, a beautiful picture begins to form.
We see a God who keeps His promises.
A God who sends light into darkness.
A God who draws near.
A God who speaks peace.
A God who gives joy.
A God who holds all things together.
And ultimately, a God who gives us Jesus.
Not as an idea.
But as a Savior.
As Emmanuel.
As the fulfillment of every promise.
This is what Advent is really about.
Not just waiting.
But remembering who we are waiting for.
🌿 A Simple Way to Practice Advent This Year
If you’re wondering how to actually walk this out in a meaningful way, here’s a simple invitation:
Choose one verse each day.
Write it down.
Read it slowly.
Ask God what He wants you to see.
You don’t need a perfect plan.
You just need a willing heart.
Maybe keep a small journal beside your Bible.
Maybe pray the verse out loud.
Maybe let it guide your thoughts throughout the day.
Small moments like these often become the most meaningful ones.
✍️ Reflection Questions
Take a few moments with these questions:
- Which verse from this list speaks most to my current season?
- What does Advent look like in my daily life right now?
- Where do I feel most in need of hope, peace, or joy?
- How can I slow down and create space for Jesus this season?
- What is God inviting me to notice as I read His Word?
There’s no pressure to answer perfectly.
Just honestly.
Just gently.
Just with Him.
🙏 Prayer
Father,
Thank You for the gift of Your Word.
Thank You for the beauty of Advent, a season that reminds us to slow down and remember the coming of Jesus.
As we sit with these Scriptures, help us not rush past them.
Let them speak to our hearts.
Let them shape our thoughts.
Let them draw us closer to You.
In every place we feel hurried, bring peace.
In every place we feel weary, bring rest.
In every place we feel distracted, bring focus back to Jesus.
Thank You for the hope we have in Christ.
And thank You that You are still drawing near to us today.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
🌿 A Gentle Invitation
Friend, Advent doesn’t have to be complicated.
It can begin in the simplest way.
A verse.
A quiet moment.
A prayer whispered in the middle of your day.
And over time, those small moments begin to shape something beautiful in us.
A slower heart.
A softer spirit.
A deeper awareness of Jesus.
So as you move through this season, I hope these 25 verses become more than words on a page.
I hope they become moments with God.
Because Christmas is not just something we celebrate.
It is Someone we encounter.
And He is worth slowing down for.
