Quick Tips to Simplify Life and Minimize Stress

Jul 25, 2023

Life is complicated. We all know this. But sometimes it's just a little bit too complicated for its own good.

We've all got our own ideas about what makes life easier, but the truth is that there's no one-size-fits-all solution to simplifying life and minimizing stress. The best we can do is take a look at each area of our lives and see what needs to be removed in order to make it simpler and less stressful.

The first step toward simplifying your life is identifying the areas that feel unnecessarily complex or stressful—and then taking action on them! Here are some quick tips on how to simplify your life by removing unnecessary things from each area:

Quick Tip 1#: Create a Capsule Wardrobe

One of the biggest time sucks can be determining what to wear. Having a cluttered closet or too many options can create overwhelm not to mention piles of laundry. Creating capsule wardrobes for yourself and your family can help you remove unnecessary clothing from your closet and stress when it’s time to get dressed.

The idea behind a capsule wardrobe is that you have a limited number of items in your closet that all work together. You'll only need a few key pieces, but they will always look put-together and fashionable. Capsule wardrobes are great for busy people who want to look good without having to spend hours shopping or styling themselves every day!

A capsule wardrobe can also help you save money by buying fewer clothes overall (but smarter ones), which means less waste in terms of both money spent on things you don't use regularly (and therefore don't need) as well as resources used up by manufacturing those products (like water, energy).

Quick Tip 2#: Get one thing in, one thing out mindset

We all have too much stuff, and we all have too much to do. But if you're feeling overwhelmed, it's time to rethink your relationship with both.

In order to make room for the new, you need to be willing to let go of the old.

This can be a hard thing to do—and it's made even harder when we've come to think of our things as prized possessions rather than temporary tools that help us get through life. But once you start thinking about your belongings as tools instead of treasures, it gets easier to get rid of them.

Think about it: if you had a tool in your hand right now (like a hammer or a screwdriver), would you feel any hesitation about tossing it in the trash? Of course not! You'd know that there are plenty more where that came from, so why would you let one go unused just because it doesn't fit perfectly into your hand? The same is true with possessions: if something doesn't serve its purpose anymore (or ever did), then why should it stay around? It doesn't matter if it was expensive or cheap; if it's not working for what you need right now, then get rid of it!

Quick Tip 3#: Prepare your meals ahead of time

When you're trying to budget, cutting out unnecessary spending is one of the best ways to save money. And if there's one thing that can be easily cut from your budget without sacrificing quality, it's taking the time to prepare your meals ahead of time and planning your meals for the week ahead of time.

Preparing your meals ahead of time is a great way to remove unnecessary spending and guesswork from your life. When you know what you're going to have for dinner, it helps reduce the stress of trying to put something together last minute or dashing through the drive-thru.

By doing this, you can remove a lot of guess work from your life and ensure that you won't find yourself with nothing in the fridge at midnight on a Monday night. A little bit of planning goes a long way!

Quick Tip 4#: Learn to say ''no''

We all want to be good people, and when someone asks us to do something that seems like it's in the right direction, it can be tempting to say yes. But if you're always saying yes when you mean no—and don't even know why—you won't be able to spend time doing the things that are most important for your growth and happiness.

It can be hard to say no, especially when you're excited about something and someone asks you to do it. But, it's important to learn how to say no when you don't have the time or interest in something. Saying no is a way of taking care of yourself and making sure that your time is spent on things that align with your priorities and excite you. When we commit to things we don't really want to do or are not a priority, it can have consequences on our well-being and overall happiness.

But when you learn how to recognize when you are enthusiastic about saying yes and be quick to say no when you aren’t, you'll find yourself with more time and energy for things that really matter. And that means less stress and more focus on the priorities that really matter to you.

Quick Tip 5#:  Build a down-time into your schedule

There's nothing worse than the feeling of being overwhelmed by work. It can be hard to keep up with everything, especially when you're trying to balance your responsibilities with a healthy lifestyle. But there are simple things you can do to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

One easy solution is to intentionally build in quiet time, self-care, and time off into your schedule. You can do this by blocking out specific periods of time on your calendar as “me time”—the time during which you are not taking on any new commitments or responsibilities. This will help prevent burn out and overwhelm by giving you some space to breathe between projects, and it will also make it easier for you to say “no” when someone asks for something from you outside of those designated blocks of time.

You'll find yourself feeling more refreshed and energized, which means not only will you be more productive during the day, but also more likely to enjoy your life outside of work!

Quick Tip 6: Declutter Regularly

A cluttered home can be overwhelming. It's hard to relax, unwind, and enjoy yourself when there are too many things on your mind—and in your space.

In order to do this effectively, declutter regularly—not just once or twice per year. If you have a designated area where you keep all of your clutter (like an overflowing closet), then clean it out every few months so that it doesn't get too full again!

Decluttering doesn't have to be all or nothing—you can start by just getting rid of one thing every day. Or pick a room or area of your house and focus on decluttering there. You'll be amazed at how much better you feel when you have a simplified environment around you!
