Lesson 20: God (Matthew 19:26)
Key Verse:
"Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’" — Matthew 19:26 (NIV)

1. Name and Identity
God (YHWH, Elohim, Theos) – The Supreme Being, Creator, and Sustainer of all things.
In Matthew 19:26, Jesus refers to God’s unlimited power, contrasting it with human limitations.

2. Marital Status
God is not married in human terms. However, Scripture often uses marriage imagery to describe His relationship with His people:
Israel as God’s bride (Isaiah 54:5, Hosea 2:19-20).
The Church as the Bride of Christ (Ephesians 5:25-27, Revelation 19:7).

3. Setting and Place Lived
God is omnipresent (Psalm 139:7-10) and dwells in Heaven (Isaiah 66:1, Matthew 6:9).
In Matthew 19:26, Jesus is teaching in Judea, beyond the Jordan (Matthew 19:1).

4. Known For
Creator of the Universe (Genesis 1:1, John 1:3).
The One True God (Deuteronomy 6:4).
The God of the Impossible (Matthew 19:26, Luke 1:37).
Redeemer and Savior through Jesus Christ (John 3:16, Romans 5:8).

5. Time Frame or Date
Eternal – God exists outside of time (Psalm 90:2, Revelation 22:13).
This statement in Matthew 19:26 was spoken by Jesus around 30-33 AD.

6. Occupation
Ruler of all creation (Psalm 47:7-8).
Judge of the world (Psalm 96:13).
Sustainer of life (Colossians 1:17).
Father to His people (Isaiah 64:8).

7. Strengths (God’s Divine Attributes)
Omnipotent (All-powerful) – "With God all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26).
Omniscient (All-knowing) – "Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit" (Psalm 147:5).
Omnipresent (Everywhere at all times) – "Where can I go from your Spirit?" (Psalm 139:7).
Loving and Gracious – "God is love" (1 John 4:8).
Just and Righteous – "Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne" (Psalm 89:14).

8. Weaknesses (God Has No Weaknesses, But These Are Human Perceptions)
People may question His timing – "Why, LORD, do you stand far off?" (Psalm 10:1).
Some see God as distant – "My God, why have You forsaken me?" (Psalm 22:1, Matthew 27:46).
Mankind struggles to understand His ways – "My thoughts are not your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9).

9. Memorable Quotes
"With God all things are possible." — Matthew 19:26
"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." — Revelation 22:13
"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want." — Psalm 23:1

10. Cross-Reference Scriptures
Genesis 18:14 – "Is anything too hard for the Lord?"
Luke 1:37 – "For nothing will be impossible with God."
Jeremiah 32:27 – "I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?"
Philippians 4:13 – "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

11. Hebrew & Greek Name Meanings
God (Hebrew: אֱלֹהִים - Elohim) – "Mighty One, Supreme Being."
God (Greek: Θεός - Theos) – "Deity, the Divine."
YHWH (יהוה - Yahweh) – "I AM WHO I AM" (Exodus 3:14), God's personal name.

12. Application & Reflection
Do I trust God’s power in my life, or do I rely on my own strength?
Am I limiting God by doubting His ability to work in impossible situations?
How can I grow in faith and surrender to God’s unlimited power?
