Why Fall Is a Great Time to Refresh Your Faith Routine

bible journaling bible study bible study reflection christian encouragement prayer Jun 29, 2026

There’s a natural rhythm to the changing seasons.

Just as we pull out sweaters, decorate our homes, and adjust our routines, we can also take time to evaluate our spiritual habits.

Sometimes our Bible study routines become rushed.

Sometimes life gets busy, and our quiet time becomes inconsistent.

And sometimes we simply need a fresh start.

The good news is that God is always inviting us back.

Psalm 46:10 says:

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

What a gentle reminder.

Before God asks us to do anything, He invites us to be with Him.

Fall offers us a wonderful opportunity to embrace that invitation.

Not through pressure.

Not through perfection.

But through intentional presence.

Creating a Cozy Bible Study Space

One of the simplest ways to encourage consistency is to create a space you enjoy returning to.

Your Bible study area doesn’t need to be elaborate.

It might be a favorite chair near a window.

A corner of your kitchen table.

A quiet spot in your bedroom.

The goal isn’t to create a picture-perfect setup.

It’s to create an environment that helps you slow down and focus on God.

Consider including:

  • Your Bible
  • A journal or notebook
  • A favorite pen or set of Bible journaling supplies
  • A cozy blanket
  • A warm cup of tea or coffee
  • Soft lighting or a candle

These small touches can help make your study time feel intentional and inviting.

Keep Your Bible Study Routine Simple

One of the biggest mistakes many of us make is trying to do too much too quickly.

We start an ambitious reading plan.

We commit to hours of study.

And before long, we feel overwhelmed.

What I’ve learned is that consistency grows through simplicity.

Instead of asking, “How much can I accomplish?”

Ask, “What can I faithfully return to?”

Maybe that means:

  • Reading one chapter each day
  • Studying one book of the Bible
  • Following a seasonal devotional
  • Memorizing one verse each week
  • Spending five minutes in prayer before reading

Small habits practiced consistently often have a greater impact than large plans we cannot sustain.

Make Prayer Part of the Process

Bible study is about more than gaining information.

It’s about growing in relationship with God.

Before you begin reading, take a moment to pray.

Ask God to open your heart.

Ask Him to help you understand His Word.

Ask Him to reveal something about His character.

A simple prayer can be enough:

"Lord, help me hear what You want me to hear today."

Sometimes the most meaningful moments happen when we pause long enough to listen.

Try Bible Journaling This Fall

If you enjoy creativity, fall can be a wonderful time to explore Bible journaling.

You don’t need artistic skills.

You simply need a willingness to engage with Scripture in a thoughtful way.

You might:

  • Write out meaningful verses
  • Record prayers in the margins of a journal
  • Highlight recurring themes
  • Create gratitude lists
  • Reflect on what God is teaching you

Bible journaling helps many women slow down and interact with Scripture more intentionally.

It transforms reading into reflection.

Focus on Connection, Not Perfection

One of the most important things I want to encourage you with today is this:

Your Bible study routine does not need to be perfect.

There will be days when you oversleep.

Days when life feels busy.

Days when your quiet time looks different than you planned.

That's okay.

God is not keeping score.

He is inviting you into relationship.

Every time you open His Word, even for a few minutes, you are creating space for Him to speak into your life.

Those moments matter.

More than you may realize.

Fall Bible Study Reflection Questions

Take a few moments to reflect on these questions:

  • What currently helps me feel most connected to God?
  • What distractions tend to pull me away from consistent Bible study?
  • What time of day works best for my quiet time?
  • What book of the Bible would I like to explore this season?
  • What simple habit could help me grow closer to God this fall?

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for the gift of changing seasons and the fresh opportunities they bring.

As we move into this season, help us create space for You in our daily lives.

Teach us to slow down, to listen, and to treasure time spent in Your presence.

Help us develop habits that draw us closer to You—not out of obligation, but out of love.

May Your Word encourage us, strengthen us, and guide us in every season.

And may we find joy in simply spending time with You.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

A Gentle Encouragement

As you begin or refresh your Bible study routine this fall, remember this:

You don’t need the perfect plan.

You don’t need hours of free time.

You don’t need everything figured out.

You simply need a willing heart.

One open Bible.

One quiet moment.

One invitation to meet with God.

And over time, those small moments become something beautiful—a steady rhythm of faith that carries you through every season. 🍂📖✨
