God Is Always Growing Something You Can't Yet See

There’s something about watching a garden in its earliest days that requires a different kind of faith.

You prepare the soil. You plant the seed. You water it faithfully. And then, for what can feel like a long time, nothing appears to happen.

The ground looks exactly the same.

If you didn’t know a seed had been planted, you might assume nothing was growing at all.

I don’t know about you, but there have been seasons in my own life that felt a lot like that.

I prayed.

I trusted.

I kept showing up.

Yet everything around me seemed unchanged.

Maybe you've experienced a season like that too.

You're waiting for answers that haven't come yet. You're hoping for healing, praying for a loved one, asking God for direction, or simply wondering if He's still at work.

And here's what I've learned.

Just because we can't see God working doesn't mean He isn't.

Some of His greatest work happens beneath the surface, long before we ever recognize the fruit.

Let's walk through this together.

God Often Begins His Work in Hidden Places

One of the beautiful things about creation is that growth usually starts where no one can see it.

Before flowers bloom…

Before trees bear fruit…

Before a harvest fills the field…

Roots are quietly growing underground.

They're reaching deeper into the soil, drawing strength and nourishment for what will eventually become visible.

God often works in our hearts the same way.

He begins with the hidden places.

The places no one else notices.

The quiet prayers.

The lessons learned through waiting.

The slow work of healing.

The moments of surrender.

Those are often the places where faith begins to take root.

Take a moment with me.

Can you think of a season when God seemed silent?

Looking back now, can you see ways He was working even when you couldn't recognize it at the time?

Sometimes hindsight allows us to see God's fingerprints more clearly than the waiting ever could.

The Seed Must Grow Before the Fruit Appears

Jesus often used seeds to teach spiritual truths.

One tiny seed.

One incredible promise.

A seed doesn't become a flourishing plant overnight.

It grows gradually.

Patiently.

Quietly.

The same is true in our relationship with God.

We often long for visible change.

We want immediate answers.

Quick breakthroughs.

Clear direction.

But God knows that lasting growth usually begins beneath the surface.

As I've sat with this truth, I've realized that some of the most meaningful seasons in my walk with Jesus weren't the seasons where everything changed around me.

They were the seasons where He was changing me.

Growing patience.

Building trust.

Teaching dependence.

Strengthening my faith.

Those gifts became the roots that supported later seasons of fruitfulness.

God's Silence Is Not God's Absence

Waiting can make us wonder if God has forgotten us.

Maybe you've prayed the same prayer for months.

Or years.

Maybe you've asked Him for wisdom, healing, restoration, or clarity, and you're still waiting.

Can I encourage you with something?

Silence doesn't mean abandonment.

The Bible is filled with stories of people who experienced long seasons of waiting.

Abraham waited for God's promise.

Joseph waited through years of hardship.

David waited before becoming king.

Even Jesus spent years in quiet preparation before beginning His public ministry.

God was present in every one of those seasons.

He was working long before anyone else could see it.

And He's doing the same for you.

Growth Looks Different Than We Expect

Sometimes we measure spiritual growth by outward results.

We look for dramatic change.

Big moments.

Visible success.

But what if God's definition of growth looks different?

What if growth is choosing forgiveness one more time?

Trusting Him when answers haven't come.

Opening your Bible when you don't feel like it.

Praying even when the words are simple.

Showing kindness in difficult circumstances.

Those moments may not seem remarkable.

But heaven notices them.

God delights in every small act of faith.

Because every act of obedience allows our roots to grow a little deeper.

God Is Preparing You for What Comes Next

Think about a tree for a moment.

Before it can support wide branches and abundant fruit, it needs strong roots.

Otherwise, the first storm could uproot it.

God understands that principle.

Sometimes what feels like delay is actually preparation.

He's strengthening your character before expanding your influence.

Deepening your faith before answering your prayer.

Teaching you to depend on Him before opening a new door.

We don't always understand His timing.

But we can trust His heart.

Romans 8:28 reminds us that God is working all things together for good for those who love Him.

Not just the joyful seasons.

All things.

Even the hidden ones.

The Holy Spirit Is Always at Work

One of the greatest comforts we have as believers is knowing that God never stops working.

Even while we sleep.

Even while we wait.

Even while we wonder.

The Holy Spirit continues shaping us into the likeness of Christ.

Sometimes that work is so gentle we hardly notice it.

Then one day we respond differently than we would have a year ago.

We find ourselves trusting instead of panicking.

Choosing peace instead of fear.

Offering grace instead of resentment.

Those moments remind us that God has been quietly growing something beautiful all along.

Stay Faithful in the Waiting

One of the hardest parts of hidden growth is resisting the temptation to give up too soon.

Imagine if a farmer stopped watering because he couldn't immediately see results.

There would never be a harvest.

Faithfulness often means continuing to show up.

Reading God's Word.

Praying.

Worshiping.

Trusting.

Serving.

Not because we already see the outcome.

But because we trust the One who does.

Galatians 6:9 encourages us not to grow weary in doing good, because "in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."

What a beautiful promise.

God never wastes faithful obedience.

Looking Back Helps Us See Forward

One of my favorite ways to remember God's faithfulness is to look back.

There have been prayers I thought He wasn't answering.

Only to discover later that He was answering them in better ways than I imagined.

There have been seasons I thought were empty.

Only to realize they were full of quiet growth.

Maybe that's why remembering is such an important part of the Christian life.

When we remember what God has already done, we find courage to trust Him again.

His faithfulness yesterday gives us confidence for today.

And hope for tomorrow.

A Gentle Reminder

If you've been wondering whether God is still working in your life, I hope you'll remember this.

He is.

Even if the ground still looks unchanged.

Even if the answers haven't come.

Even if the waiting continues.

Roots are growing.

Faith is deepening.

Character is being shaped.

Hope is being strengthened.

God is always growing something you can't yet see.

So keep opening your Bible.

Keep praying.

Keep trusting.

Keep taking one faithful step at a time.

One day you'll look back and realize that while you were looking for visible fruit, God was faithfully doing His most important work beneath the surface.

And when the harvest comes, you'll know it wasn't rushed.

It was lovingly grown by the faithful hands of God.

• Where do I feel like God is asking me to trust Him, even though I can't yet see the outcome?
• How have I experienced hidden growth in previous seasons of my life?
• What roots might God be growing in my heart right now?
• Is there an area where I need to surrender my timeline to God's?
• What is one way I can remain faithful while I wait?

Prayer

Father,

Thank You that You are always working, even when I cannot see it. Thank You for caring about the hidden places of my heart and for growing my faith one day at a time.

Help me trust You during seasons that feel slow or uncertain. When I'm tempted to believe nothing is happening, remind me that You are growing deep roots beneath the surface. Give me patience to wait for Your timing and confidence that Your plans are always good.

Teach me to remain faithful in the ordinary moments. Help me keep opening Your Word, seeking Your presence, and trusting Your promises, knowing that no act of obedience is ever wasted.

Thank You for never leaving me, for preparing me for what lies ahead, and for faithfully completing the good work You have begun in me.
