Remembering God's Blessings One Page at a Time
Sep 18, 2026
There's something special about looking back.
Have you ever opened an old journal, found a handwritten prayer tucked inside your Bible, or come across a note that reminded you of something God did years ago?
Sometimes we forget just how much He has carried us through.
We remember the big moments—the answered prayers we celebrated or the milestones that changed our lives. But it's often the smaller moments that quietly slip from our memory. The unexpected encouragement from a friend. The peace that came during a difficult conversation. The strength to make it through a day you weren't sure you could face.
I don't know about you, but I can be quick to notice what's still missing.
The prayer I'm still waiting for.
The problem that hasn't been solved.
The uncertainty that lingers a little longer than I hoped.
But when I pause and look back, I begin to see something different.
I see that God has been faithful all along.
Maybe not always in the ways I expected.
But always in the ways I needed.
That's one of the beautiful gifts of gratitude. It slows us down long enough to notice that God's goodness has been surrounding us every step of the way.
Let's walk through this together.

God Invites Us to Remember
Throughout Scripture, God continually called His people to remember.
Remember how He delivered them from Egypt.
Remember how He provided in the wilderness.
Remember His covenant.
Remember His faithfulness.
Why?
Not because God needed reminding.
Because His people did.
When life became difficult, it was easy for them to focus on the challenge in front of them and forget everything God had already done.
If we're honest, we're not much different.
When we face uncertainty, our attention naturally drifts toward what feels heavy.
We replay our worries.
We wonder about tomorrow.
We ask questions that don't always have immediate answers.
Yet Scripture gently invites us to look back as well as forward.
Not to live in the past.
But to remember the God who has faithfully walked with us through it.

Gratitude Changes What We Notice
Let's slow this down for a moment.
Imagine ending each day by writing down just one blessing.
Not ten.
Not twenty.
Just one.
It might be as simple as:
"God gave me peace during a stressful meeting."
"I had a meaningful conversation with a friend."
"I laughed today."
"The sunrise reminded me that His mercies are new."
At first, it may not seem significant.
But over time, those simple pages begin telling a much bigger story.
They become a record of God's kindness.
They remind us that even on ordinary days, He is present.
What stands out to you here?
Sometimes we think gratitude is about ignoring what's difficult.
It isn't.
Gratitude doesn't pretend hard things don't exist.
It simply helps us recognize that God's goodness exists alongside them.

The Israelites Built Memorials
One of the things I love throughout the Old Testament is how often God's people built memorials after experiencing His faithfulness.
After crossing the Jordan River, Joshua instructed the people to gather twelve stones from the riverbed.
Those stones weren't simply decoration.
They became a reminder.
A testimony.
Years later, when children asked what those stones meant, parents would tell the story of God's faithfulness.
Imagine that conversation.
"Let me tell you what God did."
Isn't that beautiful?
Those stones pointed people back to God's character.
Today, many of us don't build stone memorials.
But we can create reminders in other ways.
A gratitude journal.
A notebook filled with answered prayers.
A Bible with dates written beside meaningful verses.
Pages that tell the story of God's faithfulness one blessing at a time.

The Blessings We Often Overlook
Sometimes we think God's blessings have to be dramatic before they're worth remembering.
But what if some of His sweetest gifts are the ones we overlook?
The breath in our lungs.
A meal shared with family.
A quiet morning with His Word.
Strength for another day.
Forgiveness when we fall short.
Grace that meets us again and again.
James reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from above.
Every gift.
Not just the extraordinary ones.
The ordinary ones too.
As I've sat with this truth, I've realized that gratitude grows when we begin paying attention.
The more we notice His goodness, the more we recognize how present He has always been.

Writing Helps Us Remember
There's something powerful about putting pen to paper.
When we write, we slow down.
We notice details we might otherwise rush past.
We reflect instead of simply moving on to the next task.
Writing one blessing each day isn't about creating the perfect journal.
It's about creating space.
Space to remember.
Space to thank God.
Space to see His hand in the middle of everyday life.
Months from now, imagine flipping back through those pages.
You'll find reminders of prayers you forgot you prayed.
You'll remember days when God gave you unexpected peace.
You'll see how He carried you through seasons that once felt impossible.
What a gift that will be.

Gratitude During Difficult Seasons
Maybe you're reading this during a season that feels especially heavy.
Perhaps you've been waiting for an answer.
Maybe you're grieving.
Or feeling uncertain about what's next.
If that's where you are, I want to encourage you with this:
You don't have to force gratitude.
God isn't asking you to pretend everything is okay.
He simply invites you to look for His presence, even in the middle of your pain.
Sometimes your blessing for the day might simply be:
"I made it through today."
"God gave me enough strength for this moment."
"I wasn't alone."
Those are real blessings too.
Our gratitude becomes deeper when we realize that God's presence is often His greatest gift.
Jesus Gave Thanks
As we read the Gospels, we see Jesus giving thanks again and again.
Before feeding the five thousand.
Before sharing the Last Supper with His disciples.
Even knowing what lay ahead, Jesus paused to thank the Father.
That always encourages me.
Gratitude wasn't something Jesus reserved for easy days.
It was woven into His relationship with the Father.
What does this show us about God?
It reminds us that thanksgiving isn't based on perfect circumstances.
It's rooted in trust.
When we thank God, we're acknowledging that He is good, even when we don't yet understand everything He is doing.
One Page at a Time
Sometimes we think spiritual growth has to happen all at once.
But more often than not, it happens one small step at a time.
One prayer.
One Scripture.
One act of obedience.
One blessing written on a page.
Those small moments may not seem significant on their own.
But over weeks and months, they become a beautiful testimony of God's faithfulness.
Don't underestimate what God can do through simple, consistent habits.
A page filled with gratitude today may become the encouragement you need tomorrow.
Here's What Stands Out
As I think about remembering God's blessings, I keep coming back to this simple truth:
We remember because He has been faithful.
Not just in the big moments.
But in countless quiet ones.
The pages of our gratitude journal become more than a list.
They become a story.
A story of God's kindness.
His provision.
His mercy.
His steady presence.
And every time we look back, we're reminded that the God who cared for us yesterday will continue to care for us tomorrow.

A Prayer
Father,
Thank You for Your goodness that surrounds us each day, even in ways we don't always notice.
Help us slow down long enough to recognize Your hand at work in our lives. Open our eyes to the everyday gifts of Your grace and remind us that every good thing comes from You.
When life feels overwhelming, help us remember Your faithfulness. When we are tempted to focus only on what's missing, gently turn our hearts toward the many ways You have already provided.
Teach us to become people of gratitude—not because life is always easy, but because You are always good.
May our lives tell the story of Your faithfulness, one day and one page at a time.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
