3 Famous Characters In The Bible I Had A Talk With

It’s a great feeling when you get a chance to meet a character from the Bible. You can talk to them about anything you like. You can treat them to your favorite restaurant or coffee shop. You can take them anywhere in the world and enjoy the time being spent with them.

So who’s your pick? We know everyone would like to meet with Jesus… but sorry, He’s off limits this time. So we’ll just choose another favorite.

As you know, we are currently living in uncertain times. Many different families around the world are facing the effects of the coronavirus outbreak. We all feel scared or safe, but we can turn to Scripture and the Lord for guidance and strength. The Bible has a lot of great examples of individuals who prove that you can go through difficult times and make it through to the other side with God as your guide.

Job:  Living In The Life of Misery

Ii is very unlikely to pick a character who had suffered a lot. But in this time of our lives, we are yet to experience the same struggles in our world. One of the great samples in the Bible will be the Life of Job. There is a lot of things we could ask Job because of all the struggles he went through. I will definitely have asked him, how does he managed to still be praising God in the middle of the tragedies he has gone through.

Job had everything — a great family, a good name and abundantly wealthy. But when Satan went to God and asked for permission to alter Job's worthy fortune, it all vanished. Satan believes that the only reason anyone, including Job, worships God and follows God's commands is because of rewards.

This is a very interesting thought, isn’t it? Is Satan right? Even in our day, the question stands, as to why people choose to be followers of God? Is it for the rewards, good health and even eternal life? Is it possible to love God for God's own sake and not because of what you can benefit from it? Can one still love God when all of His care and protection have gone away? And what did Job do? In Job 1:20-21 says,

‘’ 20 Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord."

Job did not curse God, like Satan thought he would do, but instead he praised Him. Satan has put God in a tough place by his question. If God does not permit Satan to test his philosophy about the motivation of virtuous folks like Job, then Satan can say, "You are afraid I might be right by refusing to see if Job will stay faithful after a series of disasters." If God does allow the testing to take place, his faithful servant Job will be hurt and God's reputation as a caring and protecting presence will be tarnished.

The Bible tells us that through it all, Job struggles with his suffering, saying to God, "Does it please you to oppress me, to spurn the work of your hands, while you smile on the plans of the wicked?" (Job 10:1-4)

The moral of Job's story is: It's okay to question God or think of reasons for why something is happening, but there's no need for us to stay there. Job sooner or later repents and is humbled before God. I believe having a talk with Job will be time consuming and will be refilling our coffees more than once right? :D

David:  Facing Giants

Next on our list is one of our favorites, David. His story is interesting that you would want to know how did he managed to stand against a giant. We people, today, has been facing our own giants. It could be mountain of bills, burned out at work or simply being out of your own self. What will you have asked David? For me I’ll be asking him if how much courage you need to face all the giants in our life.

David’s character is no stranger to hard times. He was anointed king of Israel and chosen by God, and yet he has been tormented by the jealousy of King Saul, who chased him for many years, just trying to kill him.

The Bible tells us that David grew increasingly frustrated from his endless running and hiding, living in caves and surviving on whatever food his men could find or what those loyal to him would offer.

He always had the opportunity to execute Saul, but he didn't because he has a decent heart. Of course, we all know how the story of Saul ends. He falls on his sword to avoid capture in battle.

Many of the psalms highlight David's cries to God and his struggles, in Psalm 142:1-2, which says, "I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy. I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble."

Despite the fact that King David battled powerfully with his faith, he never stayed in this state for long, as he still gives praises to God and giving Him magnificence.

The lesson in this is story is despite of the struggles that David has to went through, he faced it with a huge faith in God. We can conclude that God is looking for people who are faithful in small things, thankful in all things, truthful, transparent before Him and trust in His word.

Moses:  Yes, He Parted The Sea

Lastly, my final character of the Bible pick is Moses. Can you imagine a person who was able to split a sea in half? I bet you all be totally amaze if you see one. If I were to meet Moses, I would probably invite him on a beach while drinking fresh cocktail. I am sure he’ll be refreshed while telling his awesome story. I guess he might be able to perform to split the ocean again!

Moses is another Bible character who endured difficult situations. He struggled to believe he could deliver his people from Egypt, and he ran into the wilderness until God appeared to him at the burning bush and called him to do exactly what he had run away from.

With God's help, Moses successfully leads his people out of Egypt, free of bondage. It is a high point in Moses's life. At this time, everyone was praising God. But there was a slight problem. There is no water to drink. God was testing Moses and his people to see how they would react of having no water in their new land.

The people of Israel mumbled against Moses, thinking about what they should drink. How did Moses respond? He turned to God for help and God provided. "The Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink." (Exodus 15:25)

Moses is awe-inspiring. From a distance he is a grand and epic figure. But close up, he can be studied as a somewhat reluctant leader trying desperately to learn to lead under God's direction.

What we can reflect on Moses story is that we can always turn to God to lead our lives. Because with God nothing will go wrong. If we obey God, and let him lead, we can never go in the wrong direction.

Conclusion

The big takeaway from all the lessons these Bible characters learned is that with God, all things are possible (Matthew 15:26). And you too, can find strength, comfort and guidance in the Lord during these challenging times.

There are so many incredible stories of faith, courage and perseverance in the Bible. If you could only choose one biblical character to meet, who would it be?
