The Prophesied Return of Jesus
Dec 23, 2025Week 51: The Prophesied Return of Jesus
1 Thessalonians 4:13–18
The promise of Jesus’ return is one of the most hope-filled truths in Scripture. In 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18, the apostle Paul offers comfort and assurance to believers by reminding us that death is not the end and grief is not without hope.
Paul describes a glorious future moment when the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, the voice of an archangel, and the trumpet of God. On that day, those who have died in Christ will rise first, and believers who are still alive will be caught up together with them to meet the Lord in the air. From that moment on, we will be with the Lord forever. This is why Paul urges believers to “encourage one another with these words.”
This passage assures us of three powerful truths. First, the return of Christ is certain—not a vague wish, but a firm promise rooted in Jesus’ resurrection. Second, the hope of resurrection and reunion reminds us that we will one day be reunited with loved ones who have died in Christ, transformed and restored in glorified bodies. Third, living in anticipation of His return calls us to faithfulness, holiness, and readiness, shaping how we live each day.
The promise of Jesus’ return gives us strength in sorrow, purpose in hardship, and hope for the future. As we await His coming, we are invited to live with eternal perspective—comforting one another, sharing the hope of the Gospel, and anchoring our lives in the assurance that the best is yet to come.
