🍂 What Are You Carrying Into This Fall That God Is Asking You to Release?

There is something about autumn that makes us notice change.

The mornings become cooler. The days grow shorter. The leaves begin to turn, and eventually, they let go.

They don’t fight the season.

They don’t cling to what once was.

They simply release.

And every year, as I watch the leaves fall, I find myself asking a different question:

What am I still holding that God is asking me to release?

Maybe you’ve been asking yourself that question too.

Perhaps you’re carrying a disappointment from a season that didn’t turn out the way you hoped.

Maybe you’re holding tightly to an old expectation.

Maybe you’re worried about what comes next.

Maybe you’re trying to control an outcome that was never really yours to control.

Or maybe you simply feel tired.

Not necessarily from one big thing, but from carrying a hundred little things that have quietly accumulated over time.

Fall has a way of reminding us that change is not always something to fear.

Sometimes change is where God begins to do a new work in us.

🌿 God Is With Us in Every Season

We often talk about trusting God when life changes, but trusting Him doesn’t mean we always understand what He’s doing.

Sometimes faith looks like moving forward without having the whole map.

Sometimes faith looks like waiting.

Sometimes faith looks like listening.

And sometimes faith looks like opening our hands and saying:

“Lord, I can’t carry this anymore. I’m giving it to You.”

Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us:

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6 ESV

Notice that Scripture doesn’t tell us to understand everything.

It tells us to trust.

That can be difficult when we’re standing in the middle of a transition.

We want answers.

We want a plan.

We want to know what happens next.

But God may be inviting us into something deeper than having all the answers.

He may be inviting us to know Him more deeply.

🍂 What If This Fall Became a Season of Surrender?

Imagine beginning each morning with your Bible and a few quiet minutes.

You read Scripture.

You reflect.

You pray.

And then you intentionally ask:

“Lord, what are You asking me to release today?”

Maybe it’s fear.

Maybe it’s control.

Maybe it’s resentment.

Maybe it’s an expectation.

Maybe it’s something you’ve been carrying for years.

You write it down.

You pray over it.

And you place it into God’s hands.

Then the next day, you do it again.

Not because surrender is something we accomplish once and never struggle with again.

But because surrender is a rhythm.

A practice of returning our hearts to God.

🪙 Don’t Forget to Notice What God Is Doing

But surrender isn’t the only rhythm we need.

We also need to remember.

Because when we’re going through change, it’s easy to focus on everything that isn’t happening yet.

We can become so concerned about what God hasn’t done that we overlook what He is doing.

That’s why gratitude matters.

What if you began collecting little reminders of God’s faithfulness?

A prayer answered.

A needed conversation.

A moment of peace.

A provision you didn’t expect.

A Scripture that met you at exactly the right time.

A difficult day you made it through because God gave you strength.

A beautiful sunset.

A kind word.

A door that opened.

Or even a door that closed that you now realize was God’s protection.

Not every blessing will look extraordinary.

Sometimes God’s faithfulness is found in the ordinary.

And sometimes we simply need to slow down enough to notice it.

🪨 And What If You Learned to Listen?

There is another question worth asking:

“Lord, what are You teaching me?”

Not:

“What do I want God to say?”

Not:

“What answer am I hoping for?”

But:

“What is God’s Word teaching me today?”

Psalm 119:105 says:

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
— Psalm 119:105 ESV

A lamp doesn’t illuminate the entire road.

It gives us enough light for the next step.

Maybe that’s all you need right now.

Not the entire plan.

Just the next faithful step.

One Scripture.

One reminder of God’s faithfulness.

One faithful step at a time.
