From a Father's Illness to a Helping Hand Shared With Others

Sometimes the People Helping Our Ministry Need a Helping Hand, Too

Girl, one of the blessings of Y.O.U. Ministries is getting to know the people who work alongside me.

When you visit our website or watch one of our Bible studies on YouTube, you see the finished lessons, creative journaling pages, and Scripture-centered resources. But behind those projects are real people with families, responsibilities, hopes, and dreams.

And sometimes, those same people are walking through difficult circumstances of their own.

Today, I want to introduce you to Angel.

Angel lives in the Philippines and has worked as our YouTube video editor since 2023. I've had the privilege of watching her grow professionally, continue her education, and eventually celebrate a wonderful accomplishment—graduating from college!

But her journey wasn't always easy.

Recently, Angel shared a testimony about a season when her family faced serious financial hardship because of her father's illness.

And what happened afterward is a beautiful reminder that kindness doesn't have to stop with the person who first receives it.

Meet Angel — One of the Hands Behind Our Ministry

Photo caption: Meet Angel, our YouTube video editor in the Philippines. We're celebrating her college graduation and the determination that helped her reach this important milestone.

Angel joined Y.O.U. Ministries in 2023.

As our video editor, she helps prepare the Bible study lessons we share on YouTube.

When I finish recording a lesson, there's still plenty of work to do before that video is ready for you to watch.

Angel helps with that behind-the-scenes process.

While working with our ministry, she was also pursuing her college education.

I had the privilege of watching her work toward that goal, and I couldn't be happier that she reached it.

But during those years, her family experienced a difficult season that made continuing her education even more challenging.

When a Father's Illness Changed Everything

Angel shared that her father became ill and was unable to work.

For a family depending on that income, his illness brought more than worry about his health.

It also brought financial hardship.

Without his ability to work, the family struggled to meet everyday needs.

At the same time, Angel and her sister were both trying to continue their college education.

Angel described that season in her own words:

"There was this moment where we were struggling financially- like so much. Because father got sick, which means no work, no money and me and my sister is trying to survive college."

Girl, imagine trying to concentrate on your education while worrying about whether your family has enough money for food and medicine.

Those are the kinds of burdens that don't always show on the outside.

Someone can continue working, studying, and carrying out everyday responsibilities while facing tremendous uncertainty at home.

And sometimes, what a family needs most is someone willing to come alongside them.

A Helping Hand During a Difficult Season

When Angel's family was struggling, Y.O.U. Ministries was able to extend financial assistance.

Our ministry has always had a heart for helping people in practical ways when opportunities arise.

Sometimes that means providing Bible study resources.

Sometimes it means helping families affected by disasters.

And sometimes it means coming alongside someone we already know and care about when life becomes especially difficult.

For Angel's family, the assistance helped them purchase food and medicine for her father.

Angel wrote:

"I was totally surprised by the amount she sent me that put me into tears."

She explained that her mother was so happy because the family could finally afford decent food and her father's medicine.

That part of her testimony touched my heart.

Because when a family is facing financial hardship, the things many of us take for granted can become enormous concerns.

Having food on the table.

Being able to purchase necessary medicine.

Knowing that someone cares enough to help.

These are practical needs, and meeting them can bring real relief during a difficult season.

I am grateful that Y.O.U. Ministries was able to be part of helping Angel's family.

But the Kindness Didn't Stop There

Now, Girl, this is the part of Angel's story that I especially want you to hear.

Angel shared that Y.O.U. Ministries was able to help her on other occasions as well.

And then something wonderful happened.

She noticed another person in her neighborhood who was struggling.

Instead of thinking only about what she had received, Angel decided to share some of that help with someone else.

She wrote:

"I was also able to help someone from our neighborhood who is also struggling. I shared the blessing to them."

Isn't that something?

A ministry based in the United States helped a young woman and her family in the Philippines.

And that young woman turned around and helped someone in her own neighborhood.

Angel even took photographs because she wanted me to know that she had passed some of that kindness along.

I loved hearing that.

Not because I needed recognition, but because it showed that the assistance had reached beyond the original family.

Someone else had been helped.

And that's what makes this testimony so special.

When One Helping Hand Reaches Another

We sometimes think of outreach as one person giving and another person receiving.

But Angel's story reminds us that the impact of kindness doesn't always end there.

Sometimes the person who receives help becomes the person offering help to someone else.

And that kindness can continue reaching people we may never meet.

Galatians 6:10 encourages believers to do good to everyone as they have opportunity, especially to those of the household of faith.

That verse reminds me that we don't have to solve every problem in the world to make a difference.

We can respond to the opportunities God places before us.

We can notice when someone is struggling.

We can offer encouragement.

We can share what we're able to share.

And we can remember that practical acts of kindness matter.

Angel's family needed help during her father's illness.

Y.O.U. Ministries had an opportunity to assist.

And later, Angel had an opportunity to help someone else.

Different people, different circumstances, but kindness continuing beyond where it began.

A Reminder From Scripture

There's another passage I think about when reflecting on Angel's story.

In 2 Corinthians 9, Paul writes about generosity and the collection being made to help believers in need.

In verse 12, he explains that this service not only supplies the needs of the saints but also overflows in thanksgiving to God.

That is an important reminder.

Christian generosity isn't simply about giving something away.

It's also about recognizing the needs of others and responding with a willing heart.

When people receive practical help, those needs are addressed.

And when they respond with thanksgiving to God, we are reminded that our generosity should point beyond ourselves.

I don't want the focus of Angel's testimony to be on what I did.

I want the focus to be on the family who received help, the kindness Angel later shared, and our gratitude that the ministry was able to participate.

Because the purpose of outreach isn't to receive praise.

It's to love our neighbors in ways that are meaningful and practical.

Celebrating Angel's College Graduation

There's another part of Angel's journey I want to celebrate.

Angel graduated from college!

I've watched her work toward this milestone while contributing her talents to Y.O.U. Ministries.

Knowing that she and her sister were trying to continue their education during their father's illness makes her graduation especially meaningful.

College requires commitment, perseverance, and hard work.

And Angel reached that finish line.

I'm so happy for her!

I don't want to take credit for her accomplishment. That achievement belongs to Angel and the effort she put into her education.

But I'm grateful I've had the opportunity to watch her progress and celebrate this important moment in her life.

Sometimes the relationships we build through ministry allow us to share in one another's milestones.

We celebrate the happy moments.

We offer encouragement during the difficult ones.

And we get to watch people continue growing.

That's something I treasure about the women who work with Y.O.U. Ministries.

More Than a Video Editor

When someone watches one of our YouTube Bible studies, they may never think about the person who helped edit the video.

But I do.

Because I know there is a real person behind that work.

Angel is more than our video editor.

She's a daughter who watched her father become ill.

She's a sister who worked toward her education while her family faced financial hardship.

She's a college graduate who deserves to celebrate what she's accomplished.

And she's someone who chose to share kindness with another person when she had the opportunity.

Those are the things I want you to know about her.

Not just the work she does for our ministry, but the person behind the work.

Angel's Words of Gratitude

Angel ended her testimony with a message that means so much to me:

"You Ministry has been a blessing to me and my Family simce I was hired as video editor. May God continually bless this Ministry and continue to change lives and lead towards Jesus."

What a sweet reminder of why we do this work.

Our desire at Y.O.U. Ministries has always been to help people spend time in God's Word, understand Scripture, and grow in their relationship with Jesus.

But as we share those resources, we also want to recognize the practical needs of the people God brings into our lives.

Sometimes the opportunity to serve comes through a Bible study.

Sometimes it comes through encouragement.

And sometimes it comes through helping a family purchase food and medicine during a difficult season.

All of those moments remind us that love should be more than something we talk about.

It should also be something we put into action.

A Personal Message to Angel

Angel, I want you to know how proud I am of you.

I've watched you continue your education, develop your skills, and reach the wonderful milestone of graduating from college.

I've also been touched by your willingness to share your family's story with our ministry friends.

But one of the things that means the most to me is knowing that when you received help, you looked around and found someone else who needed a helping hand.

You didn't have to do that.

But you did.

Thank you for being part of Y.O.U. Ministries.

Thank you for the work you contribute to our Bible studies.

Thank you for sharing your family's experience.

And thank you for reminding us that kindness doesn't have to end with the person who receives it.

I'm grateful for you and your family.

When Love Reaches Beyond Our Walls

Girl, this is exactly why we created our outreach stories page.

I want you to see the people behind the ministry.

I want you to understand that our work reaches beyond Bible study videos, printable pages, and online gatherings.

Sometimes it reaches into a home where a father is ill.

Sometimes it helps a family put food on the table.

Sometimes it helps someone purchase necessary medicine.

And sometimes the person we've helped becomes the one offering assistance to another family.

That's what happened in Angel's story.

And I'm grateful she shared it with us.

We may not be able to help everyone, but we can be faithful with the opportunities we have.

And sometimes those opportunities reach further than we could have imagined.

Be Part of Their Story
