The APPLE Bible Study Scripture Journaling Method

APPLE.  How easy of an acronym is that to remember!  I came across the APPLE method while looking around Pinterest during my research  and it was an easy decision to add it to this series.  Arabah Joy is who created this acronym because it was something she could easily remember.  So let's dive into Arabah's meanings behind each of the letters.

The APPLE Bible study method

The APPLE Bible study method is no different from any of the other methods of studying Scripture that have acronyms, due to the fact the you read the Scripture passage or chapter and use each of the letters as a deeper dive into the Word of God.  Each letter will help you break down the verse/chapter and allow you to deepen your thoughts as you allow God to show you the meaning.  So let's take a look at how Arabah designed each letter's meaning.

APPLE is an Acronym for

A-Attribute(s) of God

Now let's begin with your choice of Scripture.  In our private Facebook group You Ministries will provide a Scripture prompt calendar each month with a new theme.  Once you have your prompt read through the entire passage first.  Now go back through and find the Attributes of God in the verses you read through.  When you are picking out the attributes you will begin to see just how wonderful our God truly is.  Examples of attributes might be; wonderful, teacher, loving, kind, and patient.

P- Promises from God

How fun this step is to go back and look through the passages and find all the wonderful promises of God.  How comforting it is to read, feel and take notice that He truly has given everything we need right there in His Word.  His promises are our guide in this life, promises of hope, joy, peace, salvation and eternal life.

P- Principles for Life

Now as you begin this step, take another look back at the Scriptures and look for any life principles.  What are the verses trying to tell us about how we should live our life.  Are there direct commandments God wants us to obey?  The Word of God has survived 2,000 years and was written for us to have instruction throughout our life.  The Word is not just a book to read but it is our book of life to live by.

L- Lessons Learned or Sin to Avoid

Again, we are going to review the Scripture(s) and look for any lessons that can be learned.  Is God telling us things we should do?  Is God telling us things we shouldn't do?  Is there something that is going on in my life right now that God is using Scripture to help us through?

E- Example to Follow

Lastly, take a look at those Scriptures again one final time and pray to God for discernment on how you can use these passages as an example in your own life.  Are there personal examples just for you or are there examples for you to share and show others by being a disciple.

As We Close

It is so important to remember that not all methods will click with the style of studying and journaling Scripture that you may have.  The most important thing to remember is that we all need to be in the Word of God and journaling Scripture gives us a unique way to study and be our own creative self.
