78 Days of Hope — Qhonner’s Story
Nov 02, 2026
Some seasons of life are measured not in weeks or months, but in the small victories that get a family through one more day. For Qhonner and his family, that season included 78 days in the neonatal intensive care unit.
A Difficult Beginning
Qhonner was born with tracheoesophageal fistula and esophageal atresia (TEF/EA), conditions that required specialized medical care and surgery. His family faced an emergency transfer to Primary Children’s Hospital, where his treatment began. The surgery was successful, but the journey toward bringing him home was far from over.
During attempts to reduce his ventilator support, Qhonner experienced a collapsed left lung. There were concerns about pneumonia, further treatment, and days when progress seemed uncertain. His family watched for signs of improvement while balancing the demands of work, travel, and caring for their family.
Seventy-Eight Days
Through those long NICU days, each encouraging update mattered. Qhonner began tolerating breast milk, and the family continued hoping for the day when they could all be together at home. After 78 days, that day finally arrived.
Going home did not mean every challenge had ended. In the family’s update, Qhonner was taking bottle feeds with thin liquids using an ultra-preemie nipple and receiving weekly physical, occupational, and speech-language therapies. Follow-up appointments remained part of their routine. These details reflect the family’s update at the time, not a claim about his current medical status.
A Helping Hand Along the Way
A long hospital stay affects more than medical routines. It can place a tremendous strain on the whole family. During this season, God placed it on our hearts at Y.O.U. Ministries to help Qhonner’s family financially. We were grateful for the opportunity to offer practical assistance while they focused on their little boy.
We share that part of the story not to draw attention to an amount or a gift, but because it is part of what our mission means: walking in the Scriptures and showing care in practical ways when people are facing hard days.
Home Together
In the update his family shared, they celebrated Qhonner’s continued improvement and the joy of finally being home together. The road had required patience, medical care, and perseverance, and they were grateful for every step forward.

We are thankful Qhonner’s family allowed us to share their journey. May their story encourage others who are waiting through a difficult season—and remind us that a prayer, a kind word, or a helping hand can matter more than we realize.
